Pavel Travnicek received B.A. and Ph.D. from the Faculty of Nuclear Science and Physical Engineering at Czech Technical University in 1990 and 1997, respectively. Since 1994 PT joined Institute of Atmospheric Physic at Czech Academy of Sciences where he co-founded Department of Space Physics. PT has served as PI of several projects funded by European Space Agency focused on simulations of space plasmas on HPC systems. PT has lead project to build two supercomputers Amalka at Prague. PT is PI of the Dual Segmented Langmuir Probe experiment on Proba-2, one of two first Czech experiments on an ESA spacecraft. PT developed one of two first 3-D hybrid models of the interaction between a magnetosphere and solar wind flow. Since 1997-8 PT has started collaboration with the group of Maha Ashour-Abdalla at UCLA. PT has spent stays at Mullard Space Science Laboratory, Holmbury St. Marry, U.K. (~2 years), LESIA, Meudon, France (~2 years). PT’s hybrid model of the magnetosphere has been selected by NASA’s MESSENGER team to support research of the MESSENGER AMDG group. After 6 months stay at JPL in 2008, PT has moved to IGPP UCLA and in 2010 joined Space Science Lab at UCB.
